With 2019 nearly upon us (and where on earth did 2018 go?) I thought it might be time to write up some goals for the upcoming year. 2018 was a good reading year for me, I tried plenty of new authors and books as I had got into a bit of rut. In recent years, I have mostly only re-reading books, but not this year! Oh, and I started this blog, of course.
So, without further ado, here are my goals for 2019!
Read 30 books
This might not seem like a particularly ambitious number, and I am almost 100% sure I will read more than 30 books in 2019, but it is an achievable number that will mean I can enjoy my reading and will allow me to focus on other parts of my life (How dare I!!!) including my writing.
Read more books from the library
This one makes sense from a ‘books can get expensive’ point of view. This one won’t be hard to achieve because, as it currently stands, I don’t own a library card. So, one book from the library will be a success! This will be ideal for starting series. If I am not 100% sure I’ll love it before starting, then begin by going to the library. If I love it, then I can go buy the books.
Read a greater range of genres
This year I mostly read fantasy. Now, I’m not going to stop reading fantasy as it is my favourite genre, but I do want to branch out a bit. I got a travel book (On the Trail of Genghis Khan: An Epic Journey Through the Land of the Nomads by Tim Cope) for Christmas that I am quite excited to read and have downloaded Skyward by Brandon Sanderson to my phone, which is Sci-Fi, so that is a start.
Reach 200 followers
200 seems like a lot of people! Ok, maybe not. Some blogs have followers in the thousands, but 200 seems like a lot to a newbie like me! I currently sit at about 50, which is pretty good going since I have only been on WordPress for one-month. Now, if I expand at this rate, then I should hit 200 in a few months, so maybe I am being conservative, but still. I’m aiming for a minimum of 200 followers by this time next year.

So, there are my blogging goals for 2019. Now to buckle down and get to them. Hope you enjoyed reading this and let me know what you think. Have I been to conservative?

It’s definitely good to be realistic! And I applaud how well you keep your specific situation and what you can achieve in mind – my recommendation, if you’re at all concerned that your goals are too conservative, would be to set a date to take another look (I like May/June because it’s the end of my spring semester, but whatever works for you) and update your goals if need be 🙂

Yes, that sounds smart! If it looks like I will complete them too easily, I may have to set secondary goals later.

I don’t read huge amounts of sci-fi but have also heard really good things, so fingers crossed!

Good luck! Skyward is a great start into sci-fi as it does have kind of a fantasy feel to the narrative. I loved it.

I’ve heard such good things about the book, and Brandon Sanderson in general, so am pretty excited! But, I also want to keep my expectations down so I am not expecting too much!

I love reading library books! Especially because I often don’t have money to buy them

Yeah, I’d love to be able to buy all the books I want, but it’s a bit unrealistic financially.

I usually read about 30-35 myself and luckily see a lot of the books recommended by other bookworms are available at the library – thank you, God! – so I will go for the sane reasons you do – to try a series out first there.
