Hi everyone!

I’ve seen this tag floating around the place over the last few weeks and thought it looked pretty interesting… So, I’ve finally given it a go! Plus, I only have another day before June is gone and it is no longer midway through the year.

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2019

36904457

So many choices! I think I would have to say The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson though. This book blew my socks off and even made my enjoyment of the previous books greater in retrospect… How do you even do that?!?!

BEST SEQUEL OF 2019 SO FAR

kingdomcopper

The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty. I absolutely loved the first book and this book matched it in every respect, which certainly isn’t easy to do!

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO

the passengers

There are a fair few contenders for this one, but I’ve gone for The Passengers by John Marrs. The concept of self-driving cars, combined with the misuse of social media to influence public opinion through half-truths and lies, to frustrate a terrorist attack seems pretty interesting to me. It would be a break from my usual genres too!

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2019

realm of ash

Realm of Ash by Tasha Suri. The first book in the series, Empire of Sand, is amazing! It was definitely one of my books of 2018… I just read it after I had written my best books of 2018 post. Woops!

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

34846987

I have to admit, 2019 has been a pretty good year for reading so far, but I have decided on The Toymakers by Robert Dinsdale. I liked the book. I really did, but it wasn’t at all what I expected and it took a while to get going. Though the ending is great, there are parts that drag on a little bit. Even with Dinsdale’s poetic writing.

BIGGEST SURPRISE

38126164

The Grey Bastards by Jonathan French. Did not expect to love this book as much as I did. I didn’t expect to not like it (who reads a book they expect to dislike!?!?) but this book was amazing. Very excited for its sequel when it comes out later this year.

FAVOURITE NEW (TO ME) AUTHOR

Brandon Sanderson. I know he isn’t new to 99.99% of fantasy fans, but I hadn’t read any of his books until this year. He’s pretty good, isn’t he? 😀

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

I don’t really have any… Let alone a newest one… Sorry, not sorry.

NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER

The Lord Ruler from the Mistborn trilogy! This guy… This guy! Honestly, after the first book, I thought he was very ‘meh’, but boy was I wrong! Over the course of the next two books, he really grew on me as a character until he was my favourite in the series. As that includes Sazed!

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY?

Erm… I must be dead inside as I can only think of one book that has made me cry of the top of my head, I haven’t read that this year. So I can’t include it. Sorry!

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

skyward

Hmmm… So many options! I’m going to go for Skyward by Brandon Sanderson on the basis that it was the first book of his I ever read, and it didn’t disappoint. He is such a hyped-up author that I was worried I wouldn’t really like this book, but I did, and so I went on to pick up the Mistborn books after.

FAVOURITE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR

Does it have to be a new adaption? I suppose so. Game of Thrones Season 8 it is then (and it really wasn’t the best of GOTs) as it is the only adaption I can think of. I don’t watch a huge amount of TV and I can’t class Marvel films because I haven’t read the comic books, so that is cheating too!If it doesn’t have to be new… the Lord of the Rings films, hands down!

FAVOURITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR

24 hours in ancient rome

A pretty tough one… I never think my reviews are that good actually. I worry I waffle on a lot and don’t actually say much. But for this, I am going to go with 24 Hours in Ancient Rome by Philip Matyszak. I really enjoyed reading this book and I actually quite enjoyed writing the review. I also changed the layout and format of my reviews with this one and quite enjoyed the simplicity of it.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU BOUGHT OR RECEIVED SO FAR THIS YEAR

38204046

This was a close call between a couple of books but in the end, I have gone for The Winter of the Witch by Katherine Arden. The cover art for the UK version of this is simply stunning!

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

heroes

All of them, obviously! But really, I don’t have any required reading that makes anything a ‘need’. I am going to say Heroes by Stephen Fry though, because I have wanted to read it since I finished Mythos last year, but my OCD nature meant that I have waited until the paperback came out – got to have matching sets, you know!

I TAG PEOPLE BECAUSE I LOVE SPREADING PANIC

Hasn’t everyone done this already? I’m not gonna tag anyone as I feel like I am very late to the game, but if you want to have a go, feel free!

Hope you guys enjoyed this book tag!

Jack
